Since the early 1980s, Cates Farms has hosted an annual production sale each fall, which is now known as the "Star Search" sale. This Shorthorn sale takes place every Saturday on Labor Day Weekend at the farm in Modoc. In 2012, we started our first fall-born Internet sale, called "Modoc Madness" which is held in March.

  Embryo Packages

Lot 8 - 2 packages of 4 Embryos
Sire: HD Bloodstone
Dam: WHR Cumberland 4124
These embryos will be full sibs to CF RL Cumberland 7104.  7104 is the mother of the 6, lot number one females sold in last year’s sale for an average of $42,000.  Those heifers so far this year have been responsible for 2 division champions and a reserve at Louisville, KY, a division and a reserve in Denver, CO. The reserve supreme champion heifer at the Hoosier Beef Congress and the fourth overall heifer at the Kansas Beef Expo.  7104 was a Louisville and Denver division champion that produced a reserve national champion for the Boyert family with her first calf.  The mother of these embryos is also the mother of the $76,000 heifer purchased by Sullivan farms.  Dam is a TH carrier.

Lot 9 - 2 packages of 4 Embryos
Sire: CF Solution
Dam: WHR Cumberland 4124
This cow family is as hot as any we have right now and this donor is the one that started it all.  The 4124 female is the mother of the $76,000 female purchased by Sullivan farms and the grandmother of the famous lot ones in this past Star Search Sale that average $42,000 on 6 heifer calves sold.  These are full sibs to the lot 5 heifer in this sale and we have two spring borns on the ground that look awesome.  This cow is an egg making machine otherwise we would not be parting with so many.  Dam is a TH carrier.

Lot 10 - 1 package of 4 Sexed Heifer Embryos
Sire: Sull GNCC  Eldorado
Dam: CF Red Rose 688
This has been a go to mating here at Cates Farm.  Dam is a full sib to Solution and Bloodstone.  She is a huge egg producer and always works with sexed semen.  Daughters of this mating have averaged over $10,000, and gone on to win a lot of banners across the country.  Eldorado just sired both the 2013 national champion female and the 2013 show bull of the year. These eggs are always in high demand.

Lot 11 - 1 package of 4 Embryos
Sire: Free k-kim Hot Commodity
Dam: CF Lucky Charm 076
CF Lucky Charm 076 is one of my favorite heifers we have ever shown.  She was one of the best structure, biggest bodied females that have been campaigned in recent years.  076 was the reserve grand female in the Denver junior show for Bailey Clanton.  We love the Hot Commodity cattle; we feel he is the best low birth weight outcross bull, which can also produce show cattle.  Hot Commodity sired the Margie female of Simons that just won the Ft. Worth heifer show.  He also sired JSF Hot Wire the top selling bull in Jungles sale, we recently selected to be our next herd sire.  This mating should be awesome.

Lot 12 - 1 package of 4 Embryos
Sire: Kolt RGLC Simplify
Dam: CF Lucky Charm 076
CF Lucky Charm 076 is one of my favorite heifers we have ever shown.  She was one of the best structured, biggest bodied females that have been campaigned in recent years.  076 was the reserve grand female in the Denver junior show for Bailey Clanton.  The Simplify cattle are very rugged boned, stout made cattle with extra style.  The Simplify’s were the top sellers at this year’s Kolt sale and two of them won their divisions at major show this year.  These two complement each other very well. Simplify has also been proving to be easy calving. Sire is a TH carrier.

Lot 13 - 1 package of 4 Embryos
Sire: DF Cloud 9
Dam: CF Augusta Pride 8122 bs x
These embryos will be full sibs to the heifer that Xavier Ferris is showing this year that won her division in Louisville, KY.  8122 is a full sister to Simon’s Augusta Pride 925 female that has been their top producing female.  They sold three Cloud 9’s out of her last year for good money.  This mating works.  Sire is a TH carrier.

Lot 14 -  1 package of 4 Sexed heifer Embryos
Sire: Free K-Kim Hot Commodity
Dam: CF Augusta Pride 8122
8122is the mother of the heifer that Xavier Ferris is showing this year that won her division in Louisville.  8122 is a full sister to Simon’s Augusta Pride 925 female that has been their top producing female.  We love the Hot Commodity cattle, we feel he is the best low birth weight outcross bull, which can also produce show cattle.  Hot Commodity sired the Margie female of Simon’s that just won Ft. Worth heifer show.  He is also the sire of JSF Hot Wire the top selling bull in Jungles sale that we selected to be our next herd sire.  This mating should be awesome.

Lot 15 - 2 packages of 4 Embryos
Sire: HD Bloodstone
Dam: HHF RF Fools Dancer 03S
HHF RF Fools Dancer 03S is the most impressive, best looking cow on our farm.  She is a Sonny daughter out of a direct Daughter of the legendary Nobody’s Fool cow.  The Nobody’s Fool cow family is possibly our most dominate over the last 2 decades.  Fools Dancer produced a $40,000 Solution heifer, and we have two of her daughters in our herd.  She will work even better with Bloodstone.  The Bloodstone cattle are still as good as any in the show ring.

Lot 16 - 2 packages of 4 Embryos
Sire: Kolt RGLC Simplify
Dam: HHF RF Fools Dancer 03S
HHF RF Fools Dancer 03S is the most impressive, best looking cow on our farm.  She is a Sonny daughter out of a direct Daughter of the legendary Nobody’s Fool cow.  The Nobody’s Fool cow family is possibly our most dominate over the last 2 decades.  Fools Dancer produced a $40,000 solution heifer, and we have two of her daughters in our herd.  The Simplify’s were the top sellers at this year’s Kolt sale and two of them won their divisions at major shows this year.  Simplify has also been proving to be easy calving. Sire is a TH carrier.

Lot 17 - 1 package of 4 (2) sexed and (2) regular heifer embryos
Sire: CF solution sexed HD bloodstone non sexed
Dam: Abertees CK BE
When she was still alive this was the most impressive, best looking cow on the farm.  Again, a main member of the famed Nobody’s Fool cow family.  This female has produced a $25,000 Solution daughter and a $35,000 Bloodstone daughter so you should be good either way.

Lot 18 - 1 package of 4 Embryos
Sire: HD Bloodstone
Dam: WBG Beverly 9R41
I always liked this cow and this mating.  I forgot I had these eggs left and decided to put some in this spring.  Beverly always flushed well so I had a few left.  We sold three heifers out of this mating for over $10,000.  The cattle from this mating are great fronted, real stout, and hairy.  This mating was ahead of its time.

Lot 19 -  1 package of 3 Embryos
Sire: HD Bloodstone
Dam: SS Special Brandy
Another blast from the past mating that has always served us very well with top sellers and champions. Brandy was sired by the Maine influenced bull MTS Special Effect which always gave her progeny an added shot of power. The Bloodstone cattle are still as good as any in the show ring.  Another mating that was ahead of its time.

Lot 20 - 1 package of 3 Embryos
Sire: CF trump
Dam: ARH Ruby HR 001
Ruby is a total outcross female that has the same functional brood cow characteristics as most of the cattle produced by the Hahn family.  Trumps out of this cow could produce your next big time donor cow.  This is the cow family that produced CF Flex.

Lot 21 - 1 package of 4 Embryos
Sire: HD Bloodstone
Dam: CF Ruby 328
The Ruby cow family has produced really well for us.  This is the cow family that produced CF Flex. We sold a full sister to these embryos to Walt Dixon.

Lot 22 - 1 package of 4 Embryos
Sire: Sull GNCC Eldorado
Dam: Eastern Sky Louise
A former show heifer for Megan Greenawalt of Ohio that did a lot of winning.  She was a Strawberry Roan moderate tank.  These Eldorado’s out of her could even produce a good show steer. Eldorado just sired both the 2013 national champion female and the 2013 show bull of the year.
